・それぞれにあったやり方があるがコミュニケーションの手段として学ぶことと、学ぶ過程を楽しむことが重要です。
If you want to achieve fluency in a foreign language, you’ll also need to apply three more principles.
・長期記憶のためには間隔反復と呼ばれるように数日以内に見直すことが重要
If you want to keep words long term, you need to revise them in the course of a few days repeatedly using the so-called space repetition.
・言語を学ぶ時間を作り出すシステムを作ることが重要
The principle to follow is to create a system in your learning.
Can you wake up 15 minutes earlier than you normally do? That would be the perfect time to revise some vocabulary. Can you listen to a podcast on your way to work while driving? If you create a system in your learning, you don’t need to find that extra time, because it will become a part of your everyday life.
It’s not possible to learn a language within two months, but it’s definitely possible to make a visible improvement in two months, if you learn in small chunks every day in a way that you enjoy. And there is nothing that motivates us more than our own success.
この気持ちを もっと味わいたいから 2年ごとに新しい言語を 学ぶのです
I can’t get enough of that feeling, and that’s why I learn a language every two years.
I’ll start with an example from an Aboriginal community in Australia that I had the chance to work with. These are the Kuuk Thaayorre people. They don’t use words like “left” and “right,” and instead, everything is in cardinal directions: north, south, east and west.
“bridge” happens to be grammatically feminine in German, grammatically masculine in Spanish — German speakers are more likely to say bridges are “beautiful,” “elegant” and stereotypically feminine words. Whereas Spanish speakers will be more likely to say they’re “strong” or “long,” these masculine words.
